The English Bible translates nephilim, rephaites/rephaim, emims/emites and anakites mostly under the collective noun giants. They were not only giants, but also tyrants or bullies. The Lord wanted to get rid of the hybrid animals and people in Canaan. He gave the land to the Israelites and they had to eradicate these nations. Unfortunately they didn’t do it and David still had to fight giants.
Genesis 15:17-21 MEV
When the sun went down and it was dark, a smoking fire pot with a flaming torch passed between these pieces. [18] On that same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great Euphrates River- [19] the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, [20] the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaites, [21] the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."
Joshua 17:15 MEV
Joshua said to them, "If you are a numerous people, go up to the forests and clear out a place there for yourselves in the land of the Perizzites and the giants, since the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you."
2 Samuel 21:15-22 MEV
Now once again there was a battle between the Philistines and Israel. So David went down and his servants with him to fight the Philistines, and David grew weary. [16] Now Ishbi-Benob, who was among the descendants of the giant and was girded with new weaponry, had a spear weighing three hundred bronze shekels and had said that he would strike David down. [17] But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid. He struck down the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David made an oath with him, saying, "You shall no longer come out with us to battle, so that you do not extinguish the lamp of Israel." [18] Now afterwards there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob. Then Sibbekai the Hushathite struck down Saph, who was among the descendants of the giant. [19] Once again, there was a battle with the Philistines at Gob. On this occasion, Elhanan the son of Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite struck down Goliath the Gittite, whose spear shaft was like a weaver's beam. [20] Once again, there was war at Gath. There was a man of stature who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number. Now he also was born to the giant. [21] When he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah, the brother of David, struck him down. [22] Now these four were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
1 Chronicles 20:4-8 MEV
Now after this, when war broke out in Gezer with the Philistines, Sibbekai of Hushah killed Sippai, who was one of the descendants of the giants, and they were humbled. [5] Again there was war with the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi, the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose wooden spear was like a weaver's beam. [6] Yet again there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in number; and he also was descended from the giants. [7] When he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David's brother, killed him. [8] These were descended from the giants in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and his servants.

1 Samuel 17:4-8,23,42-53 MEV
There went out a champion from the camp of the Philistines, Goliath was his name, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. [5] He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail. Now the weight of the bronze coat was five thousand shekels. [6] He had greaves of bronze on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders. [7] The staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam. His iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels. And a shield-bearer was walking before him. [8] He stood and called out to the ranks of Israel, "Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am not I the Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose for yourselves a man and let him come down to me. [23] As he was speaking with them, the champion, Goliath, the Philistine from Gath, was going up from the battle line of the Philistines. And he spoke these same words and David heard them. [42] When the Philistine looked and saw David, he despised him. For he was a youth and ruddy with a handsome appearance. [43] The Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?" Then the Philistine cursed David by his gods. [44] The Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the field." [45] Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a shield, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have reviled. [46] This day will the LORD deliver you into my hand. And I will strike you down and cut off your head. Then I will give the corpses of the Philistine camp this day to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the earth so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. [47] And then all this assembly will know that it is not by sword and spear that the LORD saves. For the battle belongs to the LORD, and He will give you into our hands." [48] When the Philistine arose and came near to meet David, David hurried and ran toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. [49] David put his hand in his bag and took from there a stone. And he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead. Therefore the stone sunk into his forehead and he fell upon his face to the ground. [50] So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone. And he struck down the Philistine and slew him, but there was no sword in the hand of David. [51] Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine. Then he took his sword and drew it from out of its sheath, and he finished him off and he cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled. [52] And the fighting men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted. And they pursued the Philistines from the entrance of the Valley of Elah as far as the gates of Ekron. So the Philistine dead lay slain on the road to Shaaraim as far as Gath and Ekron. [53] Then the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines and they plundered their tents.
1 Samuel 21:9 MEV
The priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you struck down in the Valley of Elah, is here, wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take it. For there is none other but that here." And David said, "There is none like it. Give it me."
1 Samuel 22:10 MEV
And he inquired of the LORD for him and gave him provisions. And he gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine."
