THE TWO TREES
Janine Forsyth
- 4 minutes read - 850 wordsThere were 2 trees in the middle of the garden/Paradise/Eden:
- The tree of life and
- The tree of knowledge of good and evil.
From Scripture it’s clear that Adam and Eve weren’t allowed to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. I believe they were meant to eat from the tree of life in order to always live sinless in the garden of God’s presence. The Bible only states that once they ate the forbidden fruit that God wanted to stop them from eating from the tree of life.
Genesis 2:8-9 MEV
The LORD God planted a garden in the east, in Eden, and there He placed the man whom He had formed. [9] Out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, along with the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 3:22 MEV
The LORD God said, "The man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. And now, he might reach out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"-
Godly wisdom, the fruit of the righteous, always placing your hope in God and a wholesome tongue are all metaphors for the tree of life. These are all characteristics of Jesus that Christians must have.
Proverbs 3:13,18 MEV
Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding;
[18] She (Wisdom) is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy is everyone who retains her.
Proverbs 11:30 MEV
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
Proverbs 13:12 MEV
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.
Proverbs 15:4 MEV
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it crushes the spirit.
Jesus’ death and resurrection paid for all the sins of this world. The curse was reversed. We can have an intimate relationship with the Father and we can experience Heaven on earth. We can walk in glory in the presence of the Father like Adam and Eve did before they sinned. Jesus said that He is the bread of life and the water that won’t let us get thirsty again. When we take communion we eat His flesh and drink His blood. We have to partake in His death and His resurrection. We will eat from the spiritual tree of life until we will eat from the actual tree of life in Paradise.
Revelation 2:7 MEV
"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give permission to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.
Revelation 22:1-5,14 MEV
Then he showed me a pure river of the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb [2] in the middle of its street. On each side of the river was the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. [3] There shall be no more curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. [4] They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. [5] Night shall be no more. They need no lamp nor the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.
[14] Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
Ezekiel 47:5-8,12 MEV
Afterward he measured a thousand. And it was a river that I could not pass over, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. [6] He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen this?" Then he brought me and caused me to return to the brink of the river. [7] When I had returned I saw on the bank of the river very many trees on the one side and on the other. [8] Then he said to me, "This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it flows into the sea, the water will become fresh. [12] By the river upon its bank, on this side and on that side, shall grow all kinds of trees for food, whose leaf shall not fade nor shall its fruit fail. They shall bring forth fruit according to their months, because their water issues out of the sanctuary. And their fruit shall be for food and their leaves for medicine."
