Jonah 1:17 NKJV
Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
After 3 days Jonah decided to be obedient to God and travel to Nineveh.
Jonah 2:1-10 NKJV
Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish's belly. [2] And he said: "I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. "Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice. [3] For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me. [4] Then I said, 'I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.' [5] The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head. [6] I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God. [7] "When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple. [8] "Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy. [9] But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD." [10] So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
JESUS
Jesus’ body was a temple of God and Holy Spirit. He stayed 3 days in hell to pay for our sin, diseases and problems.
Matthew 12:40 NKJV
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
John 2:19 NKJV
Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
Romans 8:11 NKJV
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
SAUL
Saul persecuted Christians until he had an encounter with Jesus. Saul was blind for 3 days. God sent Ananías to pray for Saul.
Acts 9:8-9 NKJV
Then Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened he saw no one. But they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. [9] And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
Acts 9:17-18 NKJV
And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." [18] Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.
There are many different events in Scripture that occured on the third day. Abraham went to offer Isaac on the third day - Genesis 22. Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land on the third day - Joshua 1:11. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana. The host ran out of wine. Jesus did His first miracle and changed water into wine - John 2. Jesus - the living water - left. He sent the Holy Spirit - wine - as our helper and comforter.
A lot can happen in 3 days. Most Old Testament verses are a shadow of Jesus’s death, burial and resurrection. The New Testament verses remind us that Jesus will return again. Jesus - the Bridegroom - wil return on the third day and the bride will attend the marriage supper of the Lamb.
Hosea 6:1-2 NKJV
Come, and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. [2] After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight.
